Living in one of central Ontario’s finest cities, we are truly blessed to be surrounded by an incredible range of talented singer-songwriters, artists and musicians. Our local and regional talent pools run deep and we are fortunate to have many opportunities to experience incredibly talented performances in intimate venues with a knowledgeable crowd. A fantastic new addition to our scene is The Songwriter Series, presented bi-weekly on Tuesdays at Donaleigh’s Irish Public House in Barrie, Ontario; presented by Inside The Music, Hey Bear Productions and the very talented Brett Caswell.

Their inaugural night on May 5th featured Neil Quin of Zeus, Gavin Gardiner of The Wooden Sky, Sam Cash and Mr. Caswell, solo performing to a nearly sold-out Temple Lounge using a unique Guitar-Pull format- the fun continues May 19, with Tim Chaisson, Andrew Austin and Lucas Dipaquale joining Brett and music journalist/promoter Chas Hay for another great night of music, stories and laughswww.songwriterseries.ca. We had such a great time at the Opening Night, that this month we’re featuring a blend of local and international singer/songwriters who have emerged on our radar…

5. Fall Together- Sam Cash & The Romantic Dogs  Great talent from Toronto on the Cameron House Records label. The four piece band (Cash, along with Aaron Comeau, Matt Bailey and Kyle Sullivan) has an infectious enthusiasm, a great sense of humour and passion that seems destined to propel them to greatness…

8. Greatest Story Ever Told- John Jacob Magistery  Great new music from the talented indie-folk singer-songwriter out of Montreal. Backed by a core band of Anthony Lombardi (drums), Mackenzie Myatt (violinb/vocals), Antoine Ferron (bass) and Francois Jalbert (guitar), Magistery and friends craft unique sonic tapestries that experiment with sound while retaining a signature soul…

Beat This Heart- Tim Chaisson  Hailing from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Chaisson is truly on top of his game right now, and has just hit the road in support of his latest country/folk/pop LP Lost In Light. His knockout showcase performances at Austin’s famed South by Southwest Festival and vast award recognitions have definitely built excitement for his upcoming appearance at The Songwriters Series, May 19 at Donaleigh’s in Barrie, Ontario…

Carry On- Coeur de pirate  Beatrice Martin is a Canadian singer-songwriter (better known by her stage name Coeur de pirate)who primarily performs in French and has been widely credited for bringing la chanson francaise to a whole new generation of Quebec youth. Her latest single has been receiving worldwide attention, both in English and French…

11. The Bliss- Fortunate Ones  Fortunate Ones is a Newfoundland-based Folk/Pop duo made up of singer/guitarist Andrew James O’Brien and singer/pianist/accordion player Catherine Allan – endearing audiences with wide-eyed energy, pragmatic optimism, and an earnest mission for connection.- CBC

The Sunny Side of the Street- The Pogues  An ode to our dear friend Michael Smiley, who recently relocated to the sunny side of the street with his exquisite new jewellery design studio; located at 18 Worsley Street in Downtown Barrie, the studio was renovated with a modern twist thanks to the talents of Level design+build. Shane MacGowan and the Pogues are a Celtic punk band from London, England. They formed in 1982 and have reached international prominence with their unique twists on traditional Irish music…

13. Come To My Party- Black Joe Lewis  Joe Lewis found his calling while working in a pawn shop in Austin, Texas. He picked up the guitar, immersed himself in prolific blues/garage scene and formulated his signature blues/funk/soul sound along with his band the Honeybears. They went on to sign with Lost Highway Records and have been headlining concerts and festivals throughout North America since 2008…

14. California Roll- Snoop Dogg feat. Stevie Wonder  Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. teams up with the legendary Stevie Wonder for another laidback summer funk jam off his latest BUSH LP…

15. While I’m Gone- Xavier Rudd & The United Nations  Another stellar track from Xavier and his talented companions off of their recent NANNA The merry band is currently touring North America, and word is that their Toronto show was simply outstanding- catch them if you can!

17. Estrelar- Marcos Valle  Marcus Valle is a Brazilian singer-songwriter who became popular in the early 80’s for his unique boogie dance tracks; this particular track has been given new life as it’s featured in quirky new ‘Whatever’s Comfortable’ ads for Southern Comfort…

18. Chaiyya Chaiyya Bollywood Joint (feat. Panjabi MC)- Sukhwinder Singh & Sapna Awasthi  This clever Bollywood style remix was used in the opening and closing credits of the 2006 film Inside Man…A slow simmering groove to wind down this months MixedTape…
